WJW Walley Pottery red brown drip handled flagon

$1,995.00

William J Walley Pottery handled vessel or flagon. Glazed in an exceptional semi matte red orange and brown green drip glaze. Die-stamped WJW. It measures 9 3/8 inches tall and 4 3/8 inches in diameter at the base. It is in great condition with only typical stilt pulls to the foot and no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Walley used a wide variety of glazes, more than the Grueby or Merrimac Potteries to whom his work is often compared. The pottery was located in West Sterling Massachusetts where he began in 1898, making everything by hand. He died in 1919. An unusual piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery.
