Hugh Robertson Dedham Art Pottery drip glaze vase

$0.00

Dedham Pottery vase hand thrown by Hugh Cornwall Robertson. It has a tan, caramel brown and greenish gray glaze dripping over the heavy baluster form. It measures 9 3/4 inches in tall and 5 inches in diameter at the widest. Marked with a hand incised Dedham Pottery and Hugh’s conjoined HCR. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws, just the typical clay shrinkage lines and grinding chips to the foot. Hugh Robertson was fascinated by Asian ceramics and glazes, in particular the Chinese oxblood red. Often called experimental, this work is really Hugh's true art pottery and the famous crackle dinnerware was made to keep the firm afloat. He died in 1908. An good piece of Dedham with an unusual glaze.
