Van Briggle Pottery rare early vase with a purple matte glaze. It is number 182 in the shape book, designed in 1903 by Artus Van Briggle, and the design is called "Spiderwort and leaves, two handles". It measures 8 3/4 inches tall and 6 3/4 inches in diameter at the widest. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, firing flaws, or repairs. Marked with the firm's double AA box mark, shape number 182, the date, 1903, and the Roman numeral III for the clay. A great glaze on an early, dated vase from the famous Colorado Springs art pottery.
