Van Briggle Pottery rare early vase with a matte green bi-color glaze which thins and flows over the relief floral design. It is number 170 in the shape book, designed in 1903 by Artus Van Briggle, and called "Stylized leaves; two handles". It measures about 13 1/8 inches tall, 5 1/4 inches in diameter and 6 5/8 inches across the handles. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, firing flaws, or repairs, just a little darkened crazing inside the lip. Marked with the firm's double AA box mark, shape number (1)70, the date, 1904, and the Roman numeral V for the clay. A great glaze on an early, dated vase from the famous Colorado Springs art pottery.
